The Citadel at dawn, above Besancon, Doubs, France. Built by the great French military architect Vauban between 1668 and 1711. It is sited on a 100 m high neck of land formed by a meander of the River Doubs, thus protecting the old town, which is sited beneath it inside the loop of the river meander.
