The Albigensian Crusades against the Cathars commenced in 1208. In 1282 bishop Bernard de Castanet commenced the construction of Cathédrale Sainte Cécile (Saint Cecilia). Built as a fortress in Southern Gothic Style, it was not completed until 1480. The ornate filigree stonework rood screen is in Flamboyant Gothic Style.
